The Church does not exist for its own sake. The Church has been established to witness and serve all our neighbors in the Name of Jesus Christ. Our goal as a church is connect people in our community, to help people grow spiritually through study and practice of the Christian faith, and to serve our community in tangible ways that make a difference.
Christians are called on by Jesus to deny ourselves and “take up our cross.” We are meant to love others as He has loved us – a love that would go even to the end for others. When Jesus calls disciples, it is not about achieving a good, happy and successful life. It’s not about us.
First Christian Church has been supported well by people in the River Valley since 1854. We are extraordinarily grateful for the sanctuary, the resources, and the people who make it happen each week. But, we do not hold onto these things as trophies. We are not a “bells and whistles” church. Instead, we make use of these things to better serve our neighbors as Jesus has called on us.
We invite you to join in worship, to study with us, to share in this community with fellowship, and to take part in special events. But, more importantly, we hope that by doing these things together, you would be better equipped to serve all our neighbors alongside us.
