New – Get an RSS feed for FCCDOC on your computer

You can now use the power of RSS to keep up to date with a list of upcoming events at Fort Smith First Christian Church,  when you subscribe (no fee) to the RSS feed using Outlook, a Web browser, or a favorite feed reader, such as Google Reader.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a web feed used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video.  The on-line calendar at FCCDOC can be added as well.

If you think you are new to RSS, you may not be aware that you are already using it.  Often the home page supplied by Yahoo or Google has a revolving news headline that is an RSS feed.  Look for a button that says “Add Content” or “Add Stuff” to your home page and then look for an icon RSS which may be labeled “Add an RSS Feed”.  You can download a number of free readers, one can be found at www.google.com/reader

To sign up for the FCCDOC Calendar feed, you will need to use either Internet Explorer or Foxfire to get started.  You can then use other browsers such as Google Chrome once it is installed.

1.       Start by going to our calendar site http://fccdoc.org and click on Calendar

2.       Click the RSS icon  http://www.mychurchevents.com/_img/rss.png on the right side of the calendar. (It’s just below Interest Groups link.)

3.       A small pop-up window opens showing the number of days to display in the feed. The default is 7. Change the number if you prefer a different number of days.

4.       Click the “Get Feed” link.

5.       The RSS feed opens in another browser tab (or window), and displays a list of events for the number of days you specified.

6.       At the top of the screen is an option to subscribe to the calendar RSS feed. A drop-down menu lists the viewing applications available to you. (For example, Microsoft Outlook, Google, My Yahoo, etc. Application availability may vary.) Select an application.

7.       Click the “Subscribe Now” button.

8.       You can now view the calendar RSS feed using the application you selected. (NOTE: Some applications may require additional steps. Follow that program’s onscreen instructions.)

To subscribe using more than one program, simply repeat the steps and choose a different application in Step 6.

You might have to copy the actual link that opens up in the browser after step 5 and paste it into your RSS reader to make it work correctly.  Once installed, you will always be up to date with Fort Smith FCCDOC.
