The Historic Buildings of

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Fort Smith Arkansas

THEN

NOW

Built in 1858, this pre-civil war Fort Smith building was located on North 6th between C and D streets.

Today, North 6th street is the location of the Fort Smith Multi-cultural Center (above) as seen from the Salvation Army building across the street.

This 1886 structure located at 7th and C had electricity added in the year 1900.

Fully restored, this historic church building now serves as the Darby Community Center.

Located at 13th and A the third church building began construction in 1903 with the first service June 11th 1905.

The building is now gone, however the cornerstone was placed outside the west entrance to the sanctuary of the fourth church, where is it today.

The hanging lamps and rose window behind the pulpit are still in use in our sanctuary today one hundred years later.

The organ was given to the Old Fort Museum.

Groundbreaking for the fourth (current) church was Sunday August 8, 1965

Construction for Disciples Hall began in the fall of 2000.

Touted in the sixties as an architectural wonder, then expanding to meet the needs

of a new millennium, the current fourth church building is the center where we begin

the next 150 years of witness and service.
